Introducing Ten-Fourteen!

Meet our children, Ten and Fourteen. Thanks to our nurse Michelle, we refer to them collectively as Ten-Fourteen. These are the two babies that were implanted this afternoon.
We arrived at the doctor's office at 2:30 and had some surprising decisions to discuss with the doctor. We ended up having three fertilized eggs that had all their chromosomes. Our doctor discussed the development of the three with our embryologist. The embryologist recommended implanting all three. Our doctor had ethical as well as medical concerns with implanting all three. Amy initially wanted to implant all three. I on the other hand had a bad feeling about it. After discussing the pros and cons further with our doctor, we decided to implant the two strongest and freeze the third for the future.
After making that decision, we moved into the implantation room. The doctor and nurse got everything set up and prepped. A resident doctor ran the ultrasound machine to monitor the uterus. This also allowed Amy and I to view the entire process. The doctor did a practice implant to make sure she had a smooth path into the uterus. She was satisfied with the trial run and had the Embryologist bring Ten-Fourteen into the room. As our doctor got into position, we were able to see the catheter enter the uterus. The doctor let us know that she was implanting the babies, and we were able to see the babies being released into the uterus on the ultrasound. It was quite an amazing process to witness. I am so glad the implantation was today so I could be there. There are not many people who can say that they witnessed their babies attaching to the uterus. The entire implantation took less than 20 minutes. After the procedure, Amy could not move for 10 minutes.
I got Amy home safely after that and she has been resting ever since. The doctor will be taking blood on March 6 to determine if we are pregnant. It is hard to believe that in the course of two weeks you can go from retrieval to being pregnant. The next nine days may be the longest that Amy and I have ever experienced, but it will be worth the wait. Between now and then though, we will have plenty to keep us busy. The closing on the house is Friday morning. Moving trucks and delivery trucks will be rolling in and out all day Saturday, and I imagine we will spend the rest of the week finding a place for everything. Hopefully this will make time move a little faster until March 6. Thank you to everyone who had us in your thoughts and prayers.

  2. So glad the transfer went well. Congratz! You are PUPO with twins :). I tried posting on your blog for the past few days and the "word" verification was not functioning properly.
